Breakfast TV anchor shares advice with Media students.
Dan Walker, the face of BBC Breakfast and Football Focus, paid a visit to the Warrington Campus of the University of Chester this week to talk to students about his life as a broadcaster
Students got a personal insight into the broadcaster’s career, finding out what it’s like to work for a big corporation like the BBC, how he prepares for interviews and what it was like to report from the Olympics in Rio this summer.
Dan also gave advice to students about being creative, finding a niche to write about and becoming an expert, and making sure basics like spelling was correct when writing to potential employers.
The visit was arranged by Michelle Ponting, Programme Leader of the Radio Production Programme, who is a former colleague of Dan’s. She said: “I have been asking Dan to come and speak to the students for a while. He works in TV and Radio and I knew he would be a great speaker.
“He gave great advice which will be really useful to our students in helping them pursue their chosen careers, such as doing lots of blog writing if they want to be writers and practising lots if they want to get into presenting. He also told us that he hadn’t been asked to do Strictly Come Dancing yet – but wouldn’t anyway! The students were excited for his appearance and all they thought it was great that he gave up his time to speak to them.”
Dan is the latest in a line-up of influential guest speakers and personalities from the Media industry, to visit the Warrington Campus and speak to the students.
